Luscious Watermelon Red Wool coat with Mink trim circa 1960s. The wool has a wonderful ribbed texture with alternating satin weave and boucle stripes. The mink is dark brown and trims the high funnel neck. There is a scalloped line of mink down the front opening. It has narrow bracelet length sleeves which are cut on the bias. The cut of the coat is typical 60s , boxy with subtle fitting in the princess lines. Very Jackie O. It is lined with beautiful red crepe satin. There are two labels Steven Forstmann Fabrics and Marcus, Worcester. Marcus was a local high end department store during the 50s and 60s

Funky full length suede coat with snake trim circa 1970s.
I have always liked the cut of these coats with their defined waist and long A-line skirts. They seem to flatter ever figure.
The suede is sturdy but still soft and hangs nicely. The top is fitted and it has a wide inset waist with snake skin cut outs. The skirt is long with a good flair at the hem. It closes with brass snaps and the sleeves have deep vents which snap closed. There is lots of decorative topstitching which helps define the design lines giving the coat a sharp stylish look. The collar is slightly exaggerated with rounded edges. It is fully lined. There are no pockets, I suppose the designer preferred to keep the look as sleek as possible and pockets can add bulk. I mended one area where the lining pulled apart and it is fine now. There are no tears or stains. The suede does have natural variations in color but this is normal and not a flaw. They are exaggerated in my photos, not as visible in real life.
The size is medium around a modern size 8 and has the following measurements.
Chest 38"
Waist 32"
Hips 40"
Shoulder to shoulder 16"
Length from shoulder to hem 45"

Dramatic 1940s Style
Stunning fur trimmed purple wool coat from the early 1940s. The finest wool in a rich shade of amethyst. The coat has a loose fitting straight cut with sharply defined shoulder line. The sleeves are beautiful, done in a two tiered design. The over sleeve has a scalloped bell shape and the more narrow undersleeve is trimmed with self covered buttons. There is a generous black and white fur collar. Fur is not my area of expertise so I hesitate to identify the type. It looks as though there may be two different types used. A top layer which is variegated in color, thick and lush with long guard hairs. Plus an edge layer that is softer to the touch in ivory and black. Check out the detail photos for a better view of the collar
Beautifully tailored with self covered buttons and hand bound button holes. It is lined in a lovely amethyst satin and has welted pockets on the sides. The condition is exceptional with no signs of wear.
The size is generous (modern 10-12 at least) and will fit a taller frame very well. It has the following measurements

Chest 49"
Hips up to 54"
Shoulder to shoulder 17 1/2"
Sleeve length 25"
Length from shoulder to hem 48"

Tweed cape/coat circa 1970s.
Brave the elements in sophisticated English style. The novel tweed has a basket weave which blends wool with unique texture fibers. The coat has slight A shape with tailored collar. It is sleeveless with a generous built in cape which falls to the hip. Single breasted button front. The lining is brown taffeta faille. There are two identifying labels May of London made in England and Made in England for Carroll Reed, North Conway, New Hampshire. The only sign of age is a little color change in the lining at the arm openings. There are no blemishes or holes and the lining is still strong. Judging by the small armscyes and chest measurement the size is small I would say around a modern 6. The measurements are as follows.
Chest 37"
Hips 42"
Cape length 24"
Length from shoulder to hem 48"

Dare to be Green!
Brilliant Emerald green suede coat from the 1960s. The suede is beautifully supple and as soft as a flower petal. The style is clean with lovely details like rounded notched lapel, single breasted covered buttons with suede bound buttonholes and button flap vertical pockets. The coat is cut straight falling to a few inches below the knee, with gentle shaping at the waist. It is fully lined in olive green satin. The label is missing. The size is a generous medium and should fit a modern size 8-10 with ease. It will work very well on a tall person but looks good on a shorter frame as well. It has the following measurements.
Bust 42"
Waist 36"
Hips 46"
Shoulder 17"
Sleeve Length 25" (quite long)
Length from shoulder to hem 43"

The coat has no tears or stains and is beautiful inside and out.

Beautifully tailored coat by Pauline Trigere, one of Americas most acclaimed designers. This coat was done, I believe, in the early 1980s maybe the late 70s. The fabric is a rich heather gray wool in a medium tone. The cut is clean and classic with subtle but interesting design lines. The shoulders have extension pleats which give them a sharply defined line. The sleeves are set into this clever pleat which circles the entire armscye. There is a high mandarin inspired collar with a decorative asymmetrical extension. The coat is cut in a straight column and closes in front with two oversized pewter buttons and bound buttonholes. There are two deep side seam pockets. The lining is a rich gun metal satin. The construction of course is exquisite! The size is in the medium range and it will work quite well on a tall frame. The chest measurement is 44", shoulder to shoulder 16" (the pleats extend a little past this), length of coat from shoulder to hem 47" and the sleeves are nice and long measuring 26". The coat looks like it was never worn and is in...

Durable

The beautiful coat you see here has me a bit stumped as to it's exact time in history. The strong shoulder line would indicate the 1940s but the cocoon cut, gay color and luxurious fur bespeak of a much earlier time. Nonetheless it is a fabulous piece. The color is best described as coral red and the ivory fur collar is incredibly soft and lush. I am not sure of the animal of origin, it is as full as fox but much softer. The lining is the same red in heavy crepe and it is fully underlined for warmth. The sleeves are a little full ending in a fold up cuff with covered buttons. The only closure on this garment is a gross grain ribbon inside and crocheted loop on the edge. It seems that it was meant to be worn loose. The size is in the medium range say from a modern 8 to 10. The sleeves are on the short side 22" long but nice 3/4 length gloves would remedy that. The length from shoulder to hem is 40" and the shoulder to shoulder measurement is 16" The label inside reads Exclusive Berkley Bonwit-Lennon, Baltimore. The coat had been worn but is in beautiful condition. I mended one small hole which is no longer visible.

Delicate

1940s brown Mongolian Lamb coat. The color in the picture is darker than the actual color of this coat. It is a rich warm brown with soft loose curls. The cut is long with broad padded shoulders and full gathered sleeves. There is a pretty tailored collar and slash pockets. Inside it is lined with brown crepe and has a side tie. The front closes with 3 furrier hooks and eyes. The label reads Jordan Marsh Boston. The fur is in remarkable condition, soft and luxurious with supple skins. The lining is in great shape but has a little fading in color at the hem. I mended both pockets where the pocket lining and fur was beginning to pull away. They are strong now and fortunately none of the fur is worn away on any of the edges. The size is a medium/large and should fit between a modern 12- 14. The shoulder measurement is 16 1/2", the chest is 43" around and the length from shoulder to hem is 44"
