Dressy little embroidered organza blouse
from the 1950s.
Sheer nylon organza with all over embroidered
pattern in petal pink. The blouse has a fitted
bodice with sheer peplum. It has a V neckline
front and back and extended shoulder lines
which serves as a cap sleeves. The front
closes with darling little, crystal clear
flower shaped buttons with rhinestone centers.
Dainty, sheer blouses like this were common
and could be worn for day or evening. Women
always wore full slips or chamisoles with
pretty lace trim so sheerness was not a modesty
issue. These blouses were created to go with
the nipped waist look of the day and the
peplum was designed to be tucked in. Belts
were worn to cinch the waist and keep it
"tidy".
The label is stitched into the center front
of the peplum and it reads Perry "a symbol of quality" The size says 34 which is usually
fairly small but the measurements are more
generous than that. I would say it is more
like a medium. A lot of blouses from the 50s are short
in the waist but this is not so it will work
well on an average to taller body. Measurements
are as follows.
Bust 36-37"
Waist 28-29"

Deep gold, metallic brocade bodice from the
late 1950s early 60s.
The material is a rich antique gold satin
with woven, gold metallic fern motif. It
is sleeveless with a wide scoop neck and
V shaped vent at center front neckline. The
cut is fitted with a shaped waist. The cropped
hem rests just above the curve of the hip.
These tops were often called waists in their
day and were designed for versatility. They
might be coordinated with a cinch waisted,
full skirt or dressy dinner suit. Worn over
skinny cigarette pants they made for chic
cocktail attire.
It is nicely constructed with a gold taffeta
underlining which helps retain it's smooth
shape on the body. The center front hem has
a vent so when you sit it doesn't buckle
or ride up. It's this attention to detail
that makes vintage clothing so wonderful.
The bodice has a back metal zipper and there
is no makers label, just a size label.
It should fit a modern medium with an average length torso. These cropped
tops typically do not work well on someone
with a longer waist line. It has the following
measurements.
Bust 38"
(ample shaping, will fit a generous
cup
size)
Waist 29"

Ethereal, metallic embroidered, organza blouses
from the 1950s.
These fetching tops are done in two versions,
gold and silver. The gold has a sheer white
organza ground with swirling gold metallic
embroidery. The same embroidered pattern
is done on the second version with metallic
silver against the palest blue organza.
Very feminine, these blouses have a gathered
scooped neckline and cap sleeves edged with
metallic trim. They are shaped at the waist
and button down the front with tiny, decorative,
metal buttons. Each has a bow detail at the
neck. Dainty, sheer blouses like this were
common in the 1940s and 50s. These are a
bit dressier than most and were probably
intended as special occasion wear. Women
always wore full slips or chamisoles with
pretty lace trim so sheerness was not a modesty
issue. The labels on both read Judy Bond all nylon.
Both are the same size and are a generous medium. They have the following measurements.
Bust 39-40"
Waist 31"
Excellent Condition
$75.00 each

Late 1960s early 70s cotton sateen
tunic
blouse by Alex Coleman.
Cotton sateen is one of my favorite fabrics.
It has the lustrous sheen and look of luxury
that is equated with silk but the ease of
care that cotton affords. Real cotton sateen
has always been costly and is sometimes confused
with cheaper polished cotton. The polished
cottons get their shine from an applied glaze
that can wash off. Cotton sateen however,
is woven from fine long staple cottons in
a satin weave which is permanent.
The bold print is ethnic inspired,
done in
lavender and greens on a white background.
The top is sleeveless with a wide collar
and self fabric sash. It buttons down
the
front and is gently shaped with side
vents.
I think my picture makes it appear
a little
longer than it really is. The length
would
come to a couple inches above the hip.
It
is a generous medium size with the
following
measurements.
Bust 39"
Waist 36"
Length from shoulder to hem 22"
Excellent Condition

Darling 1960s Irish lawn, blouse by Lady Hathaway.
Soft as a rose petal this 1960s Irish lawn,
cotton blouse has a delicate pink on white
hydrangea print. The fabric rivals Liberty's
Tana lawn cottons and is obviously made from
the finest long staple cotton.
The blouse is cut in the traditional camp
style, it buttons in front, has roll up elbow
length sleeves and a neat tailored collar.
It is cropped just above the hip with side
vents and can be worn tucked in or out. It
came to me in great condition with no holes
or rips but it was very dingy. It had been
"lovingly worn" but appeared to
have plenty life left so I hand washed it
with a little Oxi Clean in the water, gave
it a good press and it came out beautiful.
Medium in size with the following measurements.
Bust 39"
Waist 33"
